Introduced as a mercenary-style operative, Doubledealer was likely conceived as a dark counterpart to the Autobot double spy Punch/Counterpunch, but unlike his Autobot rival, he answers to no fixed allegiance, serving the Autobots, Decepticons, or his own interests depending entirely on who offers the greatest advantage. 

In Transformers: Masterforce era lore and adjacent continuities, he operates as a covert intelligence specialist, thriving in deception, infiltration, and psychological manipulation rather than direct confrontation.

What makes Doubledealer especially unique is his triple-changing capability combined with Powermaster technology.
